Blue Tent Leadership
Sharing knowledge about the Democratic Activist Community and its unrelenting agenda for compassion

Democratic Activists are the backbone of our Democracy
The 2020 election and the Georgia runoff are two incredible proof points of just how important the Democratic Activist Community is – we flipped the White House and the Senate and kept the House! We also know these hard fights and elections are not over; due to things like partisan gerrymandering and other voter suppression tactics being implemented by the GOP, we have even harder fights ahead and we need the healthiest Democratic Activist Community possible. We cannot afford activists to stop showing up or to become demotivated. We must take action to keep our community of activists healthy.
What is the Democratic Activist Community?
The quick answer? It is a community of leaders connected not by identity, but by a shared value of compassion and a belief that America has the potential to be better than it is today. Everyone who makes phone calls, canvasses, protests – we’re all leaders and part of this community.
The longer answer is more complex because, like every Democratic community, we are not a monolith. We all know that there are activists who knock doors, start organizations, or run for office, but there are also other types of leaders that are showing up too. Motivated by different things and bringing a wealth of unique skills, these leaders must be empowered and supported in specific ways.

Keeping the Democratic Activist Community healthy to save Democracy
Because the Democratic Activist Community consists of different types of leaders, who have different needs and skills, we cannot merely rely on played-out conventional methods for engaging with each other if we want a healthy community. Before we can set about making this community healthy to save Democracy, we must first deeply understand our activists and the dynamics of this community – and how to foster a thriving community and empower the leaders within it. Here is where Blue Tent Leadership comes in – we have been studying the Democratic Activist Community since 2018 and are now sharing our findings. At Blue Tent Leadership, we think it’s crucial to have a shared knowledge about our community of leaders. Together, we can take the first step to empower our fellow activist leaders for the hard work ahead.
