Meg Carnaroli
As the resident idealist, I am continuously inspired by what’s possible. It’s what gets me out of bed in the morning. Having a public school teaching background, I find no greater joy than using storytelling to open other people’s minds to what’s possible as well (I swear I have almost seen actual light bulbs go on above kids’ heads before). I love to help people figure out how to use their unique skills to make the world a better place.
Being a Hopeful Romantic means that I dream BIG and I am driven to go “upstream” to solve systemic problems: getting to the root of an issue rather than scrambling to treat the symptoms. This is why I founded Playtime at the Polls after 2016. This helped to alleviate the “childcare barrier” on Election Day by giving parents and caregivers better access to participating in democracy and thereby expanding voter turnout. My activist skills were never put to better use than when I campaigned to partner with every Board of Canvassers in Rhode Island. By the 2020 election, over half of the cities and towns in Rhode Island had committed to trying something new with Playtime at the Polls. Bucking convention – what a rush!
During the pandemic, I created, managed, and taught a school for my kids and their cousins. As the matriarch of my family, I was the safety patrol and social coordinator for my entire pandemic pod. Somehow, miraculously, my sanity stayed (mostly) intact. I graduated from URI with a dual Bachelor’s degree in English and Secondary Ed and I am enrolled as a graduate student at Rhode Island College. Sarah Steinberg
I am the pragmatist of the duo, which makes me persistently curious about why the Democratic Activist Community is the way it is today – and how we can evolve into an even healthier and effective community in the future. With over ten years of strategic marketing and development experience in health care delivery, I bring an arsenal of tools and methods that help leaders think about conventional systems differently.
I do both conventional and non-conventional activism. I’ve volunteered with as many organizations as I can – with Swing Left, Vote Save America, Fair Fight, Indivisible, Be A Hero, and The Green New Deal Network, to name a few of my favorites. Non-conventionally, I create animations that amplify progressive messages and concepts to make them more accessible to an even broader Democratic audience (check it out! orbitalsolutions.us). Notably, in 2018 I collaborated with a group of fellow Bostonites to develop Trip-to-Flip, which helped folks who live in deep blue states canvass in key swing districts across the country.
When I’m not trying to do my part of saving democracy, I am a health care innovation writer and coach, with a focus on developing new care models. I hold an MBA from Babson College and a Manufacturing Engineering degree from Boston University. During the pandemic, due to having a disability, being immune-compromised, and having a predisposition for introverted-recluse behavior, I spent my time taking every virtual creative writing class I could get my hands on.
